A beautiful palace with lovely gardens!
米拉贝尔宫及花园的点评
点评：Built in the early 17th century, Mirabell palace is a historic building in the centre of Salzburg. Later rebuilt in the Baroque style, today it is famous for its marble hall, formerly the archbishop's banqueting hall, and the angel staircase, known by this name due to the putti (baby angel) decorations on it. The marble hall is worth exploring for its marble pillars and its beautiful ceiling frescoes and nowadays it is used for weddings, concerts and awards ceremonies.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the angel staircase or the marble hall so my description of them above is based on what I've read about them online. However, we did get to explore the gardens and we really enjoyed walking around them. Some of the highlights of the gardens are the dwarf garden, which contains 28 statues of dwarves, the hedge theatre, and the large parterre garden with a central fountain with statues symbolising the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Other parts of the gardens worth noting are the Pegasus fountain and the statues of classical figures such as Hercules and Aeneas.
Fans of the musical The Sound of Music will probably be particularly excited to visit the gardens as they were used as the setting for several scenes of the film. Today, the gardens, along with the palace, are among the most popular attractions in Salzburg and rightfully so as they're lovely and they're free to visit. If you ever visit Salzburg, you should definitely make sure you explore the gardens and the palace. However, you should check opening times as the marble hall specifically is only open at certain times on particular days of the week. Please do also take note that most of the Mirabell palace is actually occupied by the city administration, so don't expect to spend a huge amount of time in the palace itself.
