Charming medieval market square in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

点评：Marktplatz is the heart of Old Town, lined with beautiful half-timbered houses, colourful buildings, fountain and cobblestone surface, it is an atmospheric and special place to spend time during day trips and overnight stays in the charming medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It is also the location of annual events such as the world famous Christmas Market held here each December.
We stayed in Rothenburg for a couple of nights recently and enjoyed Marktplatz on several occasions. In addition to historic sightseeing, there are eateries and wine bars with outdoor seating, souvenir shopping and art gallery on the square.
You can watch a quaint mechanical clock performance from the facade of the Ratstrinkstube building on the hour between 10am and 10pm and you'll find a useful Tourist Information office at the ground floor there as well.
Note: Marktplatz is quite crowded much of the day being a popular place for tourists to gather and spend time. Consider visiting early in the morning to late in the evening for more relaxing and quieter environs.
