点评:We chose to stay in Ercolano-Portici for a few days to escape the bustle of Naples. We were within easy walking distance of the ruins at Ercolano. Oh my, what a fabulous experience. Walking through the town towards and around the ruins/park gave a clear sense of the depth of the excavation. The ticket office staff were helpful and friendly, which is not always the case in Italy.
Walking through Ercolano circa 79AD was simply amazing. There are plenty of ways to get information about each of the buildings/areas/frescos. We used the digital app, although if I could have afforded Hector the guide I would have loved to have had the benefit of his expertise.
The whole experience was quite emotive and a bucket list item for me. Whilst Pompei is staggering in expanse and grandeur, Ercolano felt more personal and relatable to me. The level of preservation was extraordinary.
A special, final mention to the ‘Garden of Idleness’. A very welcome retreat from the heat and a space to rest weary feet/legs/knees amongst pomegranate trees.
An unforgettable day spent here with less crowds and an easily explored excavation area. Highly recommended.
