点评:The main reason to visit the Galleria dell'Accademia is to see the most famous sculpture in the world, David by Michelangelo. Completed in 1504 during the Renaissance, it really is a magnificent work of art. Seeing the sculpture with your own eyes is truly unforgettable. The museum is always crowded but that did not distract from enjoying our visit. Besides David, there are other sculptures by Michelangelo displayed as well as paintings from Florentine artists from the Renaissance. There is also a fascinating collection of musical instruments that were invented in Italy during the Renaissance including two original Stradivarius violins and an original piano by Bartolomeo Cristofori who invented the instrument. However, let's be honest, the only reason most visit the museum is to see The Statue of David. Even with a pre-purchased ticket with a timed entry bought online, it may still be a long wait in line to enter the museum because of security. However, if you book one of the many guided tours available (which is not really needed to appreciate the museum) you can access the museum through a different entrance making entry quick and easy. This alone made booking a relatively inexpensive guided tour worth it.
