点评:From the train station there was a long but beautiful walk along the river and through the town of Werfen to reach the funicular up to the castle. You can also walk up the mountain, but the ride was welcomed!
The castle itself is large and very well kept, and exactly how I remembered it from the classic 1969 war film Where Eagles Dare. The tour by guide Florian (who was nicely dressed in period garb) was excellent, and although mostly spoken in German provided highlights in English, including tidbits about the movie (an English handheld tour device giving explanations was also provided).Climbing the bell tower for an amazing 360 degree view, where our guide enthusiastically rang the bell, was a definite highlight!
As I missed the earlier falconry show, I cannot comment on that, but did see where the birds were kept and they were beautiful (and large!)
My only suggestion would be for the castle to promote the fact that this was a location for the well beloved war film (an absolute bucket list item for myself), and create a display in one of the unused rooms featuring the castles main role in the movie.
