点评:There is a lot to see in the one spot at Piazza della Signoria and a lot of it is free.
The main sight is the 13th/14th century Palazzo Vecchio. The most significant parts (the museum, Arnolfo Tower, Hall of Five Hundred, and the Medici apartments) have to be booked but the courtyard is free to look through.
If budget or time doesn’t allow you to go to the Accademia to see the real thing, then you can see a copy of Michelangelo’s statue of David for free. Yes, its only a copy but it stands in the same spot that the real one stood before it was whipped away into a gallery.
My favourite free thing to do here is to wander through the Loggia dei Lanzi, a sort of open-air gallery which houses 10 or so classical sculptures. Two of them are by the famous sculptor, Giambologna, who was once considered to be second only to Michelangelo.
Of course, you can expect the piazza to be very busy. Tour groups swarm through here and it can be overwhelming. However it calms down in the evening and if you can manage to get here very early in the morning, you can have it almost to yourself.
