Great Tour, But the “Lunch Experience” Felt Like a Setup

点评：The Sintra Jeep Safari itself was an incredible way to explore the region — from off-road adventures through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park to wandering the mystical Quinta da Regaleira, the day was full of unforgettable scenery, music, and culture. Our guide Marco was charismatic and knowledgeable, and we loved visiting Cabo da Roca, snapping Polaroids by the cliffs, and ending the day in charming Cascais.
But the lunch experience left a bad taste — and not because of the food.
About halfway through the tour, Marco informed us that lunch would be at his friend’s house — someone he described as a former chef who now cooks from home. It wasn’t clear from the booking whether lunch was included or optional, but it quickly became obvious that it wasn’t free — it was €32 per person, cash only. Marco asked if anyone needed to stop at an ATM, essentially springing the cost on us after the tour had already started. With no clear opt-out and food already prepared, we felt pressured to eat and pay the €64 total for two people. No menu, no heads-up, no alternative.
While the food was decent, the whole setup felt like a side hustle to get his friend paid. It was disappointing and left us feeling like we’d been maneuvered into a private meal we didn’t ask for. For a professional tour, this felt unprofessional and borderline deceptive.
