Horrible traffic management, stuck for 2+ hours
Top Station的点评
点评：The top station is just a raised viewing platform from which one can have a good view of the valley and mountains if there is no fog. However, this view can be seen from other less crowded places along the road leading to top station. The infrastructure in the top station is very rudimentary, and food is available only from roadside shanty restaurants. Beware there are NO good restroom facilities. There is one make shift one we noticed with long lines which is better avoided.
You can visit Mettupatty dam and Kundla dams on the way. The problem is that at Top station where you would turn around to come back in to Munnar there is NO TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT may be this is in TamilNadu and the jurisdiction is different not sure, but tourists would have to suffer through hours of nightmare to turn around and start driving back to Munnar. It would be wise to turn back before reaching top station intersection if possible. This would NOT be the only traffic jam you would face. The other would be where the top station highway meets Munnar colony road in Munnar town on the way back. We were stuck for 2+ hours at this point.
Munnar has decent sights but it DOES NOT HAVE the infrastructure to handle influx of tourists and the city authorities DO NOT seem to have the will to address any of it. There is potential to manage the traffic better and improve road infrastructure to relieve traffic bottle necks, but there are no signs of those happening as of yet.
Pro tip: If you are still inclined to go to Munnar, avoid weekends and holidays, and also do yourself a favor and pack a lot of patience.
