点评:I visited Pointe du Hoc with my three teens, and seeing it in person was absolutely incredible. The sheer scale of the cliffs, the bomb craters, and the preserved bunkers bring history to life. It’s a sobering and unforgettable experience that left a lasting impression.
-- Getting There, Parking, Entrance --
The surrounding roads are well-signed, making it easy to find the main entrance. There’s ample parking available across several connected lots. While there is a visitor center (hours vary by season), the site is generally accessible anytime—and particularly beautiful at sunset.
No admission fee.
-- Exploring the Site --
A network of gravel paths leads toward the cliffs and wind around the grounds, allowing you to explore the bunkers up close and see the scale of the bomb craters at your own pace.
Note: We weren’t able to get close to the Ranger Monument during our visit, as it was fenced off with in preparation for the 80th anniversary events the following day.
-- Normandy Driving Advice --
Even when things look close on a map (Pointe du Hoc is only about 7 miles from the Normandy American Cemetery), actual driving time can be much longer than expected. Roads are rural and narrow. And if you’re visiting during the week of June 6, be prepared for traffic delays due to vintage WWII vehicles (charming but slow!) and road closures or detours due to events and security.
