点评:The Bamberg Cathedral is worth a stop and this is the site where Bamberg started with the construction of a fort and then the subsequent cathedral started construction around 1002. The cathedral contains the tombs of King Henry II and Saint Kunigunde whose contributions to Bamberg eventually made it into what it is today. Bamberg Cathedral also contains a papal grave.
There is some nice medieval art here including the Bamberg Horseman which dates back to 1225-1237. They also have a reliquary containing a bone from Saint Otto who was elected Bishop of Bamberg in 1102. We thought we would get a good view of Bamberg from the cathedral but the topography of the city prevents that and there are some walls that prevent anything significant. The towers are open during some guided tours from what I understand and were not open when we visited.
The Old Court, a theatre and the Neue Residenz are all nearby and share the square on top of the hill. It is downhill from here to get to the Old Town Hall area and would take about 6 minutes to walk. When we visited Bamberg we parked near the Old Town Hall but would recommend finding a parking lot outside of the city centre and walking around because the roads are tight and parking lots have 1 hour time limits. We want to return to Bamberg one day and we would do a day trip from Nuremburg.
