点评:I did a 14 days customized tour starting in Kigali, Rwanda, to Kampala, Uganda.
First of all, I want to say Thank You to Roland Tayebwa, my tour guide, who stayed with me during the entire trip. Roland would take me out to the New Year's fireworks and join me to a New Year's concert the next evening in Kigali.
The tour started with a Kigali city tour continuing to Akagara National Park. Here I could sight 4 of the Big Five already on my first day. The accommodation and the food were outstanding. As it was throughout the entire trip.
From here we went to Uganda starting with Lake Bunyonyi, surrounded by a phenomenal nature. Green terraces, beautiful hills up to 2,478m.
Next day we went to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to see what I came for. The Gorilla trekking was much better than I expected. Visiting the largest group of gorillas in the park for 1 full hour was breath-taking. Getting so close to gorillas is an experience that still puts a smile on my face. Especially when you are into photography you should not hold back to bring all your gear. With an accompanying carrier (to be paid) you can make use of all your lenses and can fully concentrate on the hike and enjoy the jungle.
Tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park and finally I was lucky to see leopards, a mother with her 2 cubs. Hiding their prey in a tree next to them. The open lodge is another great experience. I woke up in the middle of the night as an elephant was passing by just 3 meters away from my bed. You will never forget the passing by tusks.
The chimp trekking at Kibale National Park was another highlight of my trip. 1 hour with the chimps on the ground, face to face, was a wonderful experience I don't want to have missed.
The accommodation at Murchison Falls National Park was again an open lodge where you pass by wild warthogs grazing or marabou storks on your way to the restaurant. The restaurant is perfect to see the sunset at the river Nile with fisherman breaking the golden light reflections with their canoes.
Finally, I did my third trekking at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where I was allowed to stand next to majestic rhinos. A mother with her baby rhino was the highlight here.
There is so much more to say about the trip.
I cannot recommend doing the safari drives without a tour guide. I would not have seen even half of what I saw without my tour guide Roland. If you are an ornithologist Roland can show you and tell you about the birds.
Thanks again Roland for being a great, patient, and enthusiastic tour guide.
