点评:Shiretoko Pass is a great place to stop if you are on your way to Rausu Town or Shari Town as it is the mid-way point between both sides of the Shiretoko National Park. There are panoramic views at this highest point (2,421 ft. elevation ). To our amazement in thick evergreen trees seen at the Shiretoko Pass, our guide noticed some movement in the branches and a Hokkaido Ezo Bear was witnessed peeking out of a tree branch with a pinecone in its mouth. The bear was actually eating the pinecones as they contain seeds in them. The crowd of potential photographers were getting anxious to witness the Ezo Bear again. We happened to luck out at that particular moment as the Hokkaido Ezo Bear did not pop up anymore after than sighting but it is worth to observe for such sightings when you stop at the pass as you never know until you do stop and observe. Well worth a stop while crossing during the summer months as I understand the pass is closed during the winter months when there is too much snow.
