点评:Beautiful place and the stones are magical, however the parking is a complete shambles and not cheap providing a very poor initial experience on visiting what is a popular tourist site. There was only one ticket machine working in the car park (although we eventually spotted another on the way to the village). The machines are only taking coins half of which were rejected on the first try and even when we managed to get the full value in (£7 for a day's parking) and pressed the button for a ticket, no ticket was produced. The alternative is to visit the visitor's centre to pay by card which is a 10 minute walk each way. When we returned to the car park later in the day there was a big sign in the road saying "Car park full" even though there were loads of free spaces (far more than when we arrived). It really is a very poor advert for National Trust's organisational skills.
We did a circular walk past the stones and up to see Silbury Hill and whilst the paths were incredibly muddy and slippy so not suitable for all, it's a beautiful walk. The National Trust shop is stocked with some nice produce and interesting bits and bobs - although some of the prices are pretty eye watering (£16 for a smallish pot of honey!).
The local pub (the Red Lion) is a nice old building, very dog friendly, and with several vegan options and great service, but it's a Greene King / Chef & Brewer (a big UK chain) and the food was so so as I've often found at their pubs - it's a captive audience though so it was very busy.
