National Trust - Bibury的点评
点评：I have been thinking about visiting Bibury after reading about it being one of the most beautiful villages. Honestly, it’s somewhat overrated and not worth the drive to a tiny village with a large Trout Farm, a hugely expensive hotel, a row of pretty houses and very pricey parking. Granted the £8 was for the whole day, but you would be hard pressed to spend more than an hour in Bibury. There is a pricey gift shop at the Trout Farm which is open to all. Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter merchandise is so out of place. The tenuous link to ‘The Tailor of Gloucester’ is a tad too far. The toilet queue was huge due to the buses bringing in tourists. For the life of me I can’t understand why they let buses into the village. It is total gridlock when busy. The tiny jewel in the crown was the pretty church of St Mary the Virgin and the lady who spontaneously sang Amazing Grace, not for us but simply because she was stirred to. It was wonderful.
There is also a beautiful cafe/gift shop called Eleven Bibury as you walk along the road by the river Coln which was crystal clear, selling lovely arts and crafts and a gorgeous building.
Be sure to visit on a nice day as you will need to walk everywhere. Not a great destination for people with mobility challenges.
I may well be alone in my thinking but I believe there are prettier Cotswolds villages to visit with a wealth of beautiful places to enjoy. Stow in the Wold, Broadway, Bourton on the Water, The Slaughters to name but a few.
I guess I have at least got rid of the need to visit again which is a plus.
