点评：We were looking for a place we hadn’t been 2/3 of the way to Lynchburg from our house. I saw the Falcon Rest Mansion. It looked interesting.
After researching a bit, I booked a room. We had the honeymoon suite which used to be the kitchen of the mansion. The room was quaint with gas fireplace to warm. I felt like I had stepped back in time. Nestled under the covers, we were plenty warm despite the 20° temperatures. The bed should probably be replaced as it is soft and lumpy. The bathroom was toasty and had a large claw foot tub.
The room came with microwave, refrigerator, and coffee. It was conveniently hidden so as not to take away from authentic feeling. They do have TV and Wi-Fi for those who need modern comforts.
We booked a tour of the mansion. Great history but more impressive restoration work. The owners give the tour and have done almost all of the work themselves since they bought it in 1989. It is true labor of love and they have done great. It was decorated very nicely for Christmas. Sadly no pictures allowed inside.
The gardens are nice to walk through even in rain and flurries. If you are lucky, you will encounter the sweet feline Charlie who lives next door.
There is an event space which would be ideal for small wedding or family reunion or work celebration.
