Snowy Range Scenic Byway的点评
点评：From eastbound WY130 To Laramie is 71-miles, through farm and ranchland, forests, and places to camp. The Snowy Range Scenic Byway is a self-driving tour. The road was built as a wagon road in the 1870s. It was paved in the 1930s and designated as the nation’s second Scenic Byway in 1988. The Scenic Byway over the Snowy Range is one of the shortest of Wyoming’s scenic byways, in length, and in the number of months it can be driven, by oh my, is it beautiful! The Byway is the second highest mountain pass in Wyoming, and as such is usually closed at the highest section in mid-November. Snowplows traditionally open the road right around Memorial Day weekend. At the marked pull outs for trailheads, there are vault type toilets. Lake Marie is right next to the highway, and there is a paved walkway along it. The same pathway takes the hiker to Mirror Lake, which is connected by a small waterway. There are many trailheads and pull-outs along the Byway. From there over the pass to Libby Flats, there are wonderful views the Snowy Range. Libby Flats has a large parking area with a vault toilet, but it is windy there.
We also stopped at the Centennial Visitor Center, just inside the west entrance to learn about the area, use the vault toilet and have our picnic. There are two Picnic tables behind the Visitor’s Center. The attendants inside the Visitor Center were quite nice. There is a good selection of wilderness area maps, and gift shop items. The parking area is good sized and near the entrance. The vault toilet was not clean.
