点评：We discovered the Lincoln Historical District by chance while driving toward White Sands. Since it was along our route home, we decided to stop for a quick visit. What we did not expect was to find the most memorable experience of our entire trip. My husband and I are both enthusiastic fans of Old West history. We believed we were well informed about the story of Billy the Kid. However, after arriving in Lincoln, we realized there was much more to learn. Despite the many documentaries we have seen, we do not recall any of them mentioning that the town of Lincoln remains almost completely preserved as it was in the 1880s. Walking through the historic buildings felt like entering another era.
As we explored, a staff member shared an important detail with us. The county seat was moved to another location shortly after the events that made Lincoln famous. Because of this, the town saw very little development afterward and has remained largely unchanged.
This place is truly a hidden treasure. Touring Tunstall’s store, made possible by a generous volunteer who happened to be there, was an unforgettable experience. It is surprising that Lincoln is not more widely recognized as a historic destination. In our view, it deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Deadwood, Dodge City, and Tombstone.
