Thought-provoking, but falls short.
Players Circle Theater的点评
点评：Players Circle Theater is a great venue for live theatre. The intimate setting, with not a bad seat in the house, has been our go-to destination for many fine productions.
That being said, our most recent visit was not it's best production. The theme of Over the Tavern is one that is worth exploring. Being the product of a Catholic grammar school education, I can attest to the fact that questioning any premise put forth by the nuns was rare and certainly not encouraged. So to witness the young Rudy's contrary or even reactionary thinking expressed out loud, both to Sister Clarissa and his father, is refreshing.
The young actor who portrayed Rudy showed much potential to be a fine actor going forward. Unfortunately, due to his high-pitched voice, much of the dialogue was lost on me, and I think most of the audience might feel the same. As much as I think the entire cast worked well together, not fully hearing the interchange amongst characters is problematic. And one other note. Georgie probably portrayed his role as intended by the playwright, but highlighting a mentally challenged young boy for purposes of comic relief is inappropriate and, really, not very funny.
But, for sure, we will be back to Players Circle for more great shows.
