Situation Regarding the Outbreak of Rabies Across the Coast Region
We would like to inform everyone regarding a recent outbreak of rabies that was first reported in Mtwapa and has since spread to parts of Kwale County. The outbreak has been observed among dogs, cats, and even zebras, raising concern for both domestic and wild animal populations in the region.
As a precautionary measure, and in the best interest of our visitors and the animals under our care, we have temporarily closed Bora Bora Wildlife Park – Diani until further notice.
We wish to reassure everyone that all other animal species that include giraffes, tortoises, buffaloes ,monkeys, warthogs, crocodiles, birds etc within the park are in good health.
The matter is currently under the management of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the Veterinary Authorities, and the Public Health Departments of the Coast Region, who are actively handling the situation to contain the spread of the disease to ensure public safety.
We shall therefore remain closed until the situation is fully contained. We anticipate that this closure will not be prolonged, and we will reopen as soon as it is confirmed safe to do so.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work closely with the relevant agencies to ensure the safety of our community, visitors, and wildlife.
