点评:The Dickens House museum is situated at the end of Broadstairs High Street on Victoria Parade, overlooking Viking Bay.
It is just under half a mile on foot from the station.
The building was the former home of Mary Pearson Strong who was said to be the inspiration behind the character of Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield.
The museum is housed over two floors and contains numerous artefacts from Charles Dickens holidays spent in Broadstairs including a recreation of Betsey Trotwood’s parlour, a painting of his second daughter by John Everett Millais and an old Georgian sideboard.
However the highlight of the visit was the excellent overview given by our guide Thea on Dickens’ visits to Broadstairs.
He wrote 15 of his novels whilst holidaying in the town during the 19 years he stayed there.
Photography is not allowed except with special permission and the admission fee is £5.
Opening times after Easter are between 1 and 4.30 Wednesday until Sunday.
