点评：The mind staggers at the tragic beauty of this place. As American forces advanced on Japanese positions on Saipan in July 1944 / WWII, the defending Japanese forces were compressed in to smaller and smaller perimeters on the north end of the island. Many civilians were with them, seeking to escape the advancing US military units. The Japanese defenders fought with valor and resilience - but they were outnumbered, and the outcome was never in doubt. With no retreat possible, and in accordance with Bushido warrior code many Japanese military personnel (and civilians) concluded their resistance at these cliffs. The American forces tried to convince the civilians they would be cared for, to no avail. The irony is that this is a simply beautiful spot, with unusually brilliantly blue ocean and brisk salt air from this remote Pacific paradise. Today, elderly Japanese still sojourn to this spot to comfort the souls of their loved ones who perished all those years ago at this beautiful somber spot. Getting to Suicide Cliff is a little tricky; upon approach to the area you will see a dirt road. Follow it. it will bring you to the interpretive displays at Suicide Cliff and there are memorials erected to the Japanese victims.
