点评:We came as a group of 8 golfers from the Uk with handicaps ranging from 15-28. We were excited by the prospect of playing the best course in Africa but unfortunately not only did it fail to deliver but it was also the worst course of the 4 in Marrakech we played that week. We had some friends play this course a week before and they had told us it wasn’t quite up to scratch so that saved us the shock of the disappointment. It feels very premium when you arrive at the club house and the buggies are sorted quite swiftly so you can almost put your clubs from the taxi straight onto a buggy and then pay in the pro shop. Upon paying we asked for a scorecard to look at as we had an hour before we went off but was told these were only available from the starter on the first tee which was fine. The club house was very nice with a beautiful terrace and stunning rolling views in every direction; the staff were good and friendly, no complaints there. We then went to use the practice facilities and the driving range was great with free balls and grass tees but the practice green was in a real poor state of repair. We didn’t use the chipping green as it seemed quite far away across the road.
When we went to tee off on the first tee there was no starter or scorecards so we had to go back the pro shop to sort this. About 5 minutes later a starter appeared in a buggy and gave out scorecards. Not the end of the world but not great for keeping the game moving as we were then running behind on our tee times.
The greens on the first few holes were terrible but they did start to improve as we worked round the course but didn’t really get up to a good standard. They seemed to be very patchy (I would imagine they've fallen victim to a disease that the club is struggling to remedy but we feel this should have been touched upon in the proshop when paying) and the fringes were quite long and the general upkeep in bunkers was poor. The fact that they were in a bad state I think had contributed to people not being bothered about repairing pitch marks, replacing divots or raking bunkers. On the other courses we played this week there seemed to be employees hanging round the greens doing maintenance tidying up and raking bunkers etc which in turn encouraged players to also make an effort to look after the course.
Another small gripe for us was no cart bar even for soft drinks/water. You do pass the club house between hole 9 and 10 so we bought some beers and the barman put them in an ice bucket so we could put them in the basket of the buggy which was great.
There were some really interesting and pretty holes and it could be a brilliant course if managed properly but it seems to be lacking, the whole experience was summed up when we came off after our round and although there was no one on course to continue upkeep there was a queue of caddy’s/employees wanting to clean your clubs for tips.
We have spoken about returning to Marrakech next year for golf but we all agreed that we would probably give Assoufid a miss as there is better golf course options in the area.
