点评:Assoufid was to be our final round before we headed back home. I was a little worried about this course due to a couple of poor reviews citing poor greens with disease and I even contacted our local tour operator to check. The operator assured me there was no issues and the course was in good condition, which sadly turned out to be a lie. The greens indeed were poor, particularly on the front 9, large patches of new grass and lots of disease. I have to be honest and say they did improve but it’s not good for what portrays itself as a ‘premier’ golf course. The entrance is impressive as is the clubhouse which has a lovely outdoor seating area. The practice facilities are just OK and the only practice putting green available was the one used for chipping and as you can imagine it was loaded with pitch marks. Talking of pitch marks, sad to say the greens were full of them whether this was due to the disease ie difficult to see them or players just being lazy I’m not sure but either way it’s bad form. No complimentary water was available, this we found very hit and miss in Marrakech generally and more miss than hit for sure. The golf buggies were acceptable but yet again no GPS, which appears the norm over here, thank heavens for our Garmin watches. Also no club and/or ball cleaners on buggies and the most surprising, no seed containers to repair divots, which once again appears the norm in Marrakech, which is madness really as it only basic course maintenance. We had pleasant starter, who did explain the first hole, which appeared to be the only hole with a picture layout aside the tee box, all others only displayed yardage, which is not helpful when playing a course for the first time and we were left with the tiny basic course layout on the rear of the score card. There is a good mixture of holes, some very long, some not so, some big dog legs (hence needing layouts) and a lot of waste / scrub areas which tended to be ahead of tee blocks or either side of the fairway. The issue with landing in these areas was the abundance of stones so damaging your clubs very likely. The 10th which is stroke 1 requires some thought as position is key over distance and the 17th which we were informed was their ‘signature’ hole was nice but I’d hardly call it signature. Thankfully we both parred this along with the final hole, which was a memorable finish. The fairways here were somewhat different, the grass appeared more like courses in UK where a divot can be taken as opposed to most other courses abroad where the turf just disintegrates into pieces (this is where the seeded sand required) the actual layout of the holes does look pretty with contrasting grass colours that seem to highlight the fairways and there are some nice mature trees, olives and palms which add to the overall experience. Tee blocks aplenty allow for even the longest hitters (certainly not me) yet even off the yellow blocks some holes were two, sometimes 3 good hits to reach the greens. As mentioned previously the greens were badly damaged and I would have expected a small credit on the green fee by way of compensation. That said even with the coolest and wettest day of our golfing holiday we still really enjoyed our round, especially Mrs L , whose 42 pts destroyed any hopes I had to draw the overall holiday golf competition.
