点评:We enjoyed an entertaining evening last night at the opening of Paignton's Palace Theatre's summer season. The Agatha Christie mystery who-done-it, Black Coffee. Only one of two of her stage plays that includes the iconic character Hercule Poirot, played with great style by the stalwart of Bijou Theatre, James Mackenzie-Thorpe. With a cast of 12 seasoned actors the twists and turns in the story as it unfolds kept us guessing right up to the denouement. As with many of Christie's plots each character has a possible reason and opportunity to carry out the deed, but it takes Poirot's 'little grey cells' to unravel the truth and expose the guilty party.
Now on each week until the end of July, so ample opportunities to get to see this, not often staged, play. Though Hercule Poirot appears in dozens of her novels and stories and in film and tv, but there is rarely a chance to see him portrayed on stage.
