点评:The exhibition is efficiently organized with blocks that each highlight a specific period in the city's history. I was particularly interested in two periods in which Münster touched upon Dutch history on the other side of the border. Specifically, the Protestant uprising during the 1530s, which was ultimately brutally suppressed by the Roman Catholic Bishop, leading to the gruesome public torture and killing of the leaders. The tongs that were heated and used to tear the flesh from the victims' bodies are on display, as well as replicas of the cages in which their bodies were hung from the church tower. More than 130 years later, Bishop von Galen collaborated with Louis XIV, King of France, to attack the Dutch Republic, which led to the massacres and looting of prosperous Dutch cities. The stories are well told and presented. For me, it was new to learn about Münster's resistance to Prussian rule in later centuries.
Free admission.
