DO NOT RENT FROM RENTSMART24 / ITALIAN RENT CARS
Our experience with RentSmart24 in Milan was absolutely unacceptable and should serve as a serious warning to other travelers.
We were given a dirty, heavily scratched car with a malfunctioning key (low battery) and a coolant issue that forced us to purchase and refill the liquid ourselves during the trip. The vehicle had clearly not been properly maintained and was unfit for rental.
To make matters worse, the car was missing the luggage cover (parcel shelf) – leaving all our belongings fully exposed. As expected, items were stolen from the trunk due to this negligence. When we reported it, RentSmart24 completely denied responsibility and refused any compensation or accountability.
Despite returning the car in the same condition we received it and being told everything was "OK" at drop-off, mysterious charges appeared on our credit card the next day. Their customer support was completely unhelpful and dismissive – their only argument being that they are a “big company with millions of happy customers.”
We are currently pursuing legal action and have escalated the case to the European Consumer Centre (ECC).
🚫 Avoid this company at all costs:
Misleading advertising (not truly located at the airport)
Unsafe and poorly maintained vehicles
Non-existent customer service
Scam-like deposit charges after return
Total lack of professionalism or care for the customer
Even if their prices seem cheap – it’s not worth the risk. What you’ll save upfront will likely cost you far more in stress, lost money, and legal action. Rent from a reputable international brand instead.
