Awesome hike plus great waterfalls and lovely swimming holes

点评：I visited in mid-June with my wife and our two sons (ages 10 & 8) and walked away thinking it was the best spot we’ve been for a hike in Costa Rica- where we’ve spent vacations for the past three years. The walk is long enough to feel like a workout and scenic enough to feel like an excursion- and the waterfalls along the second half of the walk are perfect for cooing off and enjoying the fresh mountain water. We did not use a guide but we support the use of guides if you want to maximize the viewing of wildlife. On our own, we saw toucans, skinks, poison dart frogs, and lots of cool plants and mosses. A highlight was standing in a waterfall at the end of the hike and letting the water rush over us. We all loved it.
The drive there is relatively easy. It’s along the main road connecting Jaco and Quepos and only a 15-min drive through the palm farms and a couple of small towns. Approximately half of the road is paved and just when you can’t take enough of the unpaved section, it becomes flat and paved. For us, it was an easy 40-min drive from our vacation home in Playa Bejuco and a delightful 2.5-hour hike and romp in the waterfalls.
Parking was plentiful and there is a restaurant with bathrooms at the entrance. There’s also an old dog at the entrance as well- he’s very cute, but very old. He’s blind and deaf, and can’t smell, so don’t try to pet him because he startles easily. We wanted to love on him but he nipped at my wife’s hands before we saw the sign asking that we leave him in peace.
All in all, HIGHLY recommended!
