We were charged an unfair "Extraordinary Cleaning Fee" of 183 Euro after returning the car.
We rented a car for a family trip for 12 days in August. As we were running late to the airport, we did not get a chance to have the car cleaned before returning it.
As we had used the car for 12 days , so Yes there was quite a bit of food crumbs in the car and some leaves from a few nature hikes. NO major dirt, No mud or any Staines. mostly food crumbs - like a "Nature valley" snack bar that opened by mistake and fell.
anyone that knows Nature Valley snack bars know they make a huge mess when fall apart - but its only crumbs and can be easily cleaned with a Vaccum.
The mess was only Standard food crumbs, dust and leaves that is easily cleaned by Vacuum in about 10-15 minutes. Usually most rental companies dont even charge for standard vacuum cleaning.
The company has 2 types of cleaning fee's on their price list.
1. "Extra Cleaning" - 30 Euro + Tax
2. "ExtraOrdinary Cleaning" - 150 Euro + tax
I would assume the "ExtraOrdinary Cleaning" is applied in rare cases of bad smells, cigarettes, staining and or mud, coffee stains etc.. that actually might require intense and expensive cleaning that could justify the 183 Euro cleaning.
I see no justification for charge 183 Euro for some vacuum cleaning.
The standard "Extra Cleaning" that cost 30 Euro + tax should have been the correct charge.
I contacted the customer service and asked that they kindly reconsider the charge and change it to the "Extra Cleaning Fee". I explained to them that it might have looked messy but its only crumbs and leaves.
They refused and insisted their charging of the "ExtraOrdinary Cleaning" fee that cost 183 Euro!! is correct!
Renters be careful about this! they are not flexible about this charge - food crumbs and leaves can cost you 183 Euro on top of the rental cost.
This charge is way out of line, and not fair in our case. Based on reviews I have ready its possible this charge is common.
The "ExtraOrdinary Cleaning" fee came to %26 of the total rental cost for 12 days!
