点评:The famine museum is really interesting and tells the history in a very engaging and enlightening way. I thought I knew a fair bit about the famine before visiting but learnt loads. The exhibits tell the story through the lives of Strokestown tenants, landlords and land agents and it has a dramatic and unexpected ending. (I had never heard the story of Denis Mahon.) Interestingly, it also set out the perspective of the landed gentry who are, for obvious reasons, never the people you sympathise with in all this but it did make me think. The walled garden is huge and also interesting. The cafe is really good - I had an absolutely delicious falafel wrap and coffee. The cafe and grounds are dog-friendly. The museum and house aren't. Strokestown village / town is also interesting to see with some beautiful late Georgian architecture, although a lot of it is in fairly sad condition now.
