点评:After visiting Scarborough for many years we finally decided to visit this amazing treasure house of a gallery, and regret not visiting sooner. From the beginning, we were greeted by a man so welcoming and helpful that he made us feel like we were visiting a friend who was showing us their own home.
The gallery is a well thought out and planned little gallery, situated on 2 floors. There are some paintings on display relating to Scarborough’s artistic history, with a temporary exhibition area. It takes between 1 to 2 hours to have a good look around.
Currently, the ground floor exhibition celebrates happy accidents and joyful mess, inviting visitors to enjoy contemporary artistic responses to objects from the collection. Combining new work from five regional artists, Luke Beech, Kate Fox, Wendy Galloway, Liberty Hodes and Angela Knipe, alongside historical artefacts, the display looks to consider new possibilities for the lives of objects.
There is also an exhibition from the Alan Ayckbourn archives, a collection of artefacts honouring the huge significance of the contribution Stephen Joseph and Alan Ayckbourn have made to Scarborough. Although the collection is small it is fascinating to get a glimpse into the early years of the theatre in the round in Scarborough.
There is a small charge of £3.00, which is valid for 1 year, so you can visit as many times as you want within the year, and it also includes admission to the Rotunda Museum nearby.
