Worthwhile Visit to the Former Carthusian Monastery Which Includes a Royal Palace from 1309
Cartoixa de Valldemossa的点评
点评:A visit to the Carthusian Monastery in Valldemossa is more than just seeing a church. This was originally a royal palace built in 1309 by King Jaume II for his son King Sancho. However, in 1399, it was given to the Carthusian monks who transformed this into a monastery that existed until 1835. An entrance ticket for €12.50 includes admission to the monastery church built in the 1750s, an apothecary shop, cloisters, and gardens but also includes a tour of the royal palace and a 15 minute live piano concert featuring works by the great Polish composer Frederic Chopin who lived at the former monastery for 3 months in the winter of 1838-39. Concerts begin at 1030am and occur about hourly. For an extra €3, you can climb up to the top of the palace tower for some excellent views which I thought was worth it. However, an entrance ticket confusingly does not include admission to the Chopin Museum which is a separate entity although it is located in the cloister section. That will cost an extra €6 but is really only worth it if you are a huge fan of Chopin.
