点评:We visited Candleston castle on a wet midweek day in August. We were looking for somewhere to take the grandchildren and opted for three castles namely Candleston, Ogmore & Coity. The castle is actually the remains of a 14th century fortified manor house and is to be found in Candleston Woods. We drove here and there is a very large (pay display) car park which we found but the castle does not seem to be signposted from it. This gave the grandchildren something to do, and after a quick game of ‘find the castle’ we stumbled on the ruins not far from the car park.
The castle itself is an open ruin and admission is free. To be honest, unless you are a student of these things, there is not much to see, however the children enjoyed climbing and running around the stone walls and though the door arches.
If you like photography there are some good opportunities here, we took pictures of the ruins showing the textures in the stone and old carvings around window and door frames and also tried some black & white photography.
We stayed here for about 40 minutes and moved on. Our scoring reflects the castle as a stand-alone attraction.
