Disappointing and expensive.

点评：I had booked afternoon tea for four of us to celebrate my father’s 97th birthday.
Of course the castle and the grounds are spectacular, that goes without saying.
Unfortunately, the actual afternoon tea did not meet our expectations.
We went to the desk, but the member of staff didn’t seem to know where we would be sitting, so she had to go away to find out. She came back and took us to our table. The chairs were tucked right under the table and we all struggled to move the heavy chairs in order to be able to sit down. Considering the age of my parents, I was surprised that the server just stood and watched us do this without any attempt to help.
The afternoon tea was served just when my stepmother had popped to the toilet. In my experience, good restaurants would wait for everyone to be sat at the table before serving the food.
The food was nicely presented. The cakes and scones were delicious, but we all felt that the sandwich fillings were rather scant.
There was a good choice of teas, but there was no offer of a ‘top up’. I ordered a hot chocolate, but this was forgotten and I had to call a member of staff who was walking through the restaurant to ask for it.
We all felt that the service was rather inattentive. Many staff walked through the room, but they did not come to the table to check on us.
When the bill came, a high percentage service charge was added, with no statement about it being discretionary. I did not feel that the service we received warranted paying this amount when we had not had good service. I did not want to make a fuss as it was a special occasion, but I do wish I had said something.
Overall, this was a disappointing and expensive experience.

总而言之，这是一次令人失望且昂贵的体验。
