点评：The fort at Birdoswald has been fitted out by English Heritage to make it very accessible for children and families to learn more about the history of the area.
The site isn't as heavily excavated as others, for example Chedworth, which seems like a conscious decision to protect the ruins. This means that you do need to use more of your imagination to consider what the site may have looked like. On a sunny day, with the view across the valley, this isn't too difficult to do. There is a little trail taking you round the space outside which was fun, but as others have noted some of the boards are becoming quite worn. Despite this we had a lot of fun exploring.
Inside there are activities to help children learn about Roman life, with Lego wall building, a quiz to figure out your Roman job, and a signalling game, our daughter really enjoyed playing and may have even learned something! With facilities including a cafe and toilets, this is a great place to learn more about Hadrian's Wall and some of the history of Roman Britain.
