Disappointing food and looking tired

点评：Overnight birthday treat for the wife on one of their offers. Standard room with dinner on the first night and breakfast and lunch then next day. Check in was smooth and the room was clean and tidy. Bed was a little low for me and the mattress was adequate. The spa facilities were again, adequate and felt areas were looking tired and in need of a spruce up. The pool was large and the water warm. The hydrotherapy pool was good, the strong jets of water helped with my aching back and saved me paying for a massage. Now the disappointment, the food offerings were well below average. On the first evening we had a sit down three course meal. The waiting staff were excellent but let down by the food coming out of the kitchen. The fishcakes were only mildly warm, my grilled pork chop had been left under the grill too long and was very dry. The Lyonnaise potato was like cardboard and the side of vegetables were sparse and not worth the additional cost. Breakfast was a massive disappointment. It was self service buffet style and the hot plate offerings were decisively dry, poached eggs would have been nice to make the breakfast a bit moist or even beans or red and brown sauce. The only positives were the choice of breads and the fresh juices. The toaster was the slowest I've ever encountered. Lunch was another self service buffet and very unappealing and unappetising choice. The soup however was tasty with nice breads to accompany it. Had to ask for a tea spoon for the dessert which seemed a major task as one didn't appear for several minutes. Overhaul we had a nice time away for the night and felt relaxed on leaving. Wouldn't rush back unless the food improves.
