1-Star Review – Champneys Springs Ruined Our 25th Anniversary

点评：We booked a stay at Champneys Springs to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, expecting a luxurious and memorable experience. Sadly, what we received was extremely disappointing and, in many ways, unacceptable.
Key issues included:
Room misrepresentation – The “Superior Suite” consisted of two small double beds pushed together, which was impractical and uncomfortable for a couple celebrating a milestone anniversary.
Spa facilities & atmosphere – The spa felt more like a local leisure centre, with loud aqua aerobics classes making relaxation impossible. Sauna and steam rooms were only accessible through gender-specific changing rooms.
Food quality – Subpar meals left us skipping lunches and breakfast, which meant we did not receive the full board we paid for.
Cleanliness & pests – Dirty crockery and cups were left outside, attracting wasps, and we even found a large beetle in the bathroom.
Treatment experience – A £115 Lava Shell massage was extremely disappointing, with pushy product recommendations, no cups for water, and an unprofessional overall experience.
Staff service – At checkout, we stated that we had not enjoyed our stay. No concern or apology was offered.
We raised these issues directly with Champneys, and while the Guest Service Manager acknowledged every failing, they insisted that a 50% refund was a “fair and final” offer — despite the fact that our once-in-a-lifetime anniversary celebration was completely ruined.
Additionally, many recent TripAdvisor reviews echo our concerns, showing that our experience is not an isolated incident.
We feel strongly that this treatment and the lack of adequate compensation is unacceptable. If you’re planning a special occasion, I would advise considering alternative luxury spa destinations, as Champneys Springs does not appear to deliver the premium experience it advertises.
