点评:Port and harbours are not often synonymous with tourist attractions, and Malaga is a port city and has been so since Roman times. However over the centuries the type of ships and their cargos coming to this harbour on the Mediterranean Sea have changed. Now Malaga serves not only as a commercial port but also as a hub for ferries heading to the Balearic Islands among other destinations. It is also a cruise ship port for the hundreds of cruise ships plying the Mediterranean. This has meant a transformation of at least part of the port area to something more welcoming to this living cargo.
In 2011 pier 2 of the port was transformed into an “oasis of tranquilty: as one of the official tourist sites calls it. Some 20,000 acres of industrial area and silos has been converted into a new open promenade the Palmeral de Las Sorpresas Malaga. This new promenade derives its name from the 400 palm trees planted here as part of the reconstruction and revitalization. Within it are contained the new cruise ship terminal, a host of museums and galleries and several shops and cafes and restaurants.
The wide-open spaces are a favourite spot for both locals and tourists to gather. There is easy access from anywhere else in the city as the main bus terminal is an easy walk to the west. Many of the other city attractions such as the Cathedral, the Alcazaba fortress, Malaga Park, and the Roman Theatre are either adjacent to Palmeral de Las Sorpresas Malaga or a short walk away.
