点评：I researched a hike I could do with my husband, 10-year-old, and 13-year-old on an all-day Frontier Airlines layover. We are in our late 40s. We rented a car at the Denver airport and drove to the Ethel Harrold trailhead. This was recommended as the straightest shot to where we wanted to hike to see the waterfalls. Did not see any fee station or place to pay to park. There was a good bathroom at the trailhead, not a porta-potty. It was about 50 minutes for us to get downhill and a little over an hour to get back up. I would plan for 30-60min at the bottom to fully enjoy the scenery. Bring plenty of water. The small cascade of waterfalls at the bottom was beautiful and worth it. I wanted something that got us out of the city and made us feel like we were in Colorado for the day, and this hike was perfect! But it was not easy! We could all do it, but I especially had to take several breaks coming back up the incline to stop, breathe, and drink water. Kids are athletes, and they were fine. There is a LONG loop and a short loop, so make sure if you have kids, that you research and take the SHORT loop that crosses the bridge at the fork in the road and takes you down to the river. I was lucky that I watched a few YouTube videos that reviewed this hike, and they showed where to turn, so I was able to lead my family in the right direction when it was time. One more tip is to print out your driving directions to and from the airport. Driving in, we used our GPS the whole time, and it was fine. Driving out, we were reminded that we were in the foothill mountains and that technology is not always reliable. No GPS signal was available. We had to feel our way out and made a few wrong turns trying to remember which way we came in. I should know better - to always print out directions when dealing with mountain drives! We made it out and stopped at the Outback Restaurant near the airport, and filled up the rental with gas at the Costco near the airport.
