点评:Accidently visited here, thinking it was the Naval Museum, the latter of which is situated behind and not visible from the road walking down. This museum however is built across 3 floors, is easily accessible with lift and stairs access and has plenty of room to move around.
Each floor takes you through an important part of the cities history, via information boards, objects and audio visual displays. The lower ground floor takes you through the foundations and growth of the city after the First World War & Interwar period, the second floor covers the Second World War, and the third on the Communist era and social strife that was present at specific points to the present day.
Displays are in English as well as Polish, so its very easy to walk around. There is also a small audio guide (price of rental is extra to entrance fee), as each section is numbered to use this. I recommend this option but I wouldn't say its essential.
I spent about 90 mins to 2 hours reading, listening and looking around. Its quite comprehensive and is a good place to learn about the city before visiting other museums because it provides important context such as the development of the port and its architecture. There are specific excerpts from the residents of the city throughout which help give this museum a more personal feel walking round. I particularly liked the section mentioning the development of Gdynia's music scene during the communist era to the 90s with headphones provided to listen to different music tracks.
A nice surprise visiting here. Not overly heavy in subject matter, but at the same time not too light either. I liked the social history element.
