点评:I love Home Town, but this art museum is the Must-do activity in Laurel. It's located near beautiful historic homes (and the museum has a guide to a walking tour around them!) and is in an impressive building. (Like all museums, it runs cold--be sure to bring a sweater.) It punches above its weight for being in a small town; the size and quality of the curation belong to a large town or small city. I could easily have spent a half day in there (but "normal" people would probably look through it in 90 minutes to two hours). There are two short 8 minute videos in a beautiful viewing room: one on the history of Laurel and one on the history of the museum. Worth watching. The staff is incredible too. Stephany was so hospitable and gave us a great overview of the exhibits.
My personal favorite areas were the Asian room where they showed the wood blocks that went into the wood block printing process and the downstairs exhibit by local Mississippi artists. I am not someone who "understands" art, so I love that each artist explained what they were communicating with their work.
I will be back to this museum! Especially since it's one of the few places open on Sundays (1-4PM) and is free admission (but be sure to make a donation if you can).
