点评:What a way to spend a day and it’s free (although donations very welcome). Our train obsession 5 year old was desperate to visit, so we made it part of a half term week away. We weren’t disappointed!
The welcome we received was very warm and the way our son’s face lit up as we entered the main hall was wonderful. Being able to get up close to some engineering marvels is something I am sure he will never forget.
There was so much to see and that’s despite parts of the museum being closed at the moment. We spent just under 5 hours looking around, but could have easily spent twice as long there.
The Flying Scotsman wasn’t on display when we visited, but Mallard was. It was great to be able to see such an incredible machine close up.
I’d recommend the talk about how trains work, which was very interesting and the lady that delivered it was extremely knowledgeable.
Why not 5 stars? Well the visit was tarnished ever so slightly by the staff at the smaller cafe, who certainly hadn’t graduated from charm school!
