Excellent experience: historical mine, tour and specimen collecting

点评：This was my second visit at Last Chance Mine and it was the best. If first time I was on a weekend and there were other visitors, this time we were alone! I got the tour from Jack Morris (the owner) that took his time to show me and explain in detail. The tour on its own was great but here comes the best part: Jack overheard my wife talking with another team member (Cory) that it is my b-day and he showed me few things that were outside the regular tour (part of a future tour). I also went collecting on the dumps and got a piece of nice amethyst vein and few sowbelly agate pieces. The surprise came home when I cut my first slab: it was full of wire silver traces! Collecting on the dumps was pretty easy, but if you do not have the tools, the mine crew will provide you. If you do not have sturdy shoes or you just don’t want to get “dirty” (dusty), you can just pick some sowbelly agate pieces from a pile or just buy a slab already cut. There are plethora of other mineral specimens to purchase for every taste: from nice, little ones for kids to specimens for more serious collectors. The “office” offers jewelry made by Jack from amethyst and silver mined from the mine. Last Chance Mine is a place I strongly recommend.
