点评:In a city with amazing sites such as the Colosseum, the Vatican and the Borghese Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art does not stand out nearly as much as it might in another place. The gallery contains many works by various modern Italian artists, but a lot of them are displayed together in one of the main rooms, so it's difficult to appreciate them. There are also some interesting works by foreign artists such as a sculpture by Giacometti, but two large sections of the building are closed, so we couldn't see any works by other renowned artists like Van Gogh or Mondrian. There's also almost no captions so it's very hard to appreciate the artistic significance of any of the paintings and sculptures. My girlfriend and I did enjoy a few of the works on display and we liked the current temporary exhibition, but we really struggled to engage with the artwork on a deeper level without any context.
Overall, I would say that the gallery is worth visiting if you can explore all of it, but I would avoid it until the closed sections reopen as €15 is too much to pay for what's on offer right now. Be careful not to mix up the audio guide offered by TripGo with the entry ticket as it seems to appear as the official ticket option if you search for the gallery on Google, but it only costs €9 and I don't think it will grant you entry.
