serious art for serious people- or a stroll through the American wing?
Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art的点评
点评:This is a tough one to review. Museum takes its commitment to American art very seriously and staffed by like minded serious people (one can talk about Glackens and his 'Renoir' period with them or discuss Thiebaud's technique) and is housed in a 30's historic mansion (largish house anyway). Yet that house is largely devoid of character (save for the speakeasy, do find) and is actually not a significant space for the collection. The collection itself is divided into permanent and visiting probably on a 50/50 basis. At the time I arrived visiting was '4 people' - i.e. four local collectors "who had some interesting things in their private collection we thought people would enjoy seeing". Well, they were, fortunately, but it's a rather thin reed. I get the sense this functions as much as an artist's center as museum - no bad thing. You will enjoy the main collection (there are some noteworthy artists, and a lot of landscape and early portraiture) you may enjoy the special collection (I did - more contemporary on the whole) and the house is mostly an afterthought.
