A great tour with a very tasty finale!

点评：Our social club has just spent several very enjoyable hours visiting this wonderful little gem, tucked away in the Sussex countryside. Despite a couple of pieces of modern machinery it was like exploring a little time capsule where traditional methods are still used to create the most delicious products. Nick, our friendly tour guide, took us for a walk through the smokery, where we not only learned about the history of Springs' but also saw how the hand filleting, curing, smoking, slicing and packing was done. It was a fascinating journey! Nick's enthusiasm and love for his job really shone through and besides his talk being very informative it was also peppered with anecdotes, which were very amusing!
After our interesting tour we sat down to have lunch in an area of the shop where there was a well thought out display of things made in the smokery and also some beautiful wooden items, made by a very talented local craftsmen. Anita had gone to a lot of trouble to prepare our food and set out our tables beautifully. It was a lovely setting for what turned out to be the most delicious and very filling lunch of bread, salad and a wide selection of all the smoked fish and cheese that they produced. Everyone in our group was really impressed and most bought things to take home with them. In fact, we have already booked another tour, later in the year, so other members of our group can also savor the wonderful experience that we had.
