Excellent Cave Tour and Tasting

点评：We (my hubby and I) booked a Cave Tour with Sparkling Wine Tasting for a Wednesday afternoon at 2:30pm at $90 per person. The website indicated the tasting included a variety of limited Schramsberg sparkling wines (five sparkling). The whole experience lasted around 90 minutes. We were shocked to learn that we were the only two people who booked this tour at this time so we had a private experience at the group price! What luck. We absolutely loved it!
Our tour was led by Francesca, who was very personable, fun, and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Schramsberg’s viticultural and winemaking practices, which are carried out by hand: grapes are hand harvested, the wines are handcrafted, the bottles are stacked and riddled by hand in underground caves. The ceilings of the caves are dark and fuzzy, covered with lichen (wine cellar mold). The older the cave, the more lichen you'll see. It was very cool and sort of creepy at the same time while we were walking around waiting for it to fall on our heads!
The tour ends in their small gift shop and there are clean restrooms available. We ended up joining their Wine Club because we have had their sparkling wine before and really loved it. We live on the east coast of the US and not all of the types we tasted are for sale here. There was no "hard sell" or anything to join the club or to purchase bottles of wine.
Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend this tour.
