点评:I was there in Dholera Smart City on Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar highway and found Lothal very near. I cannot stop myself visiting the ancient port city of the Indus Valley Civilization. There is no entry fee to visit the place. The ancient city had a well-organized layout with a residential lower town and an upper town or "citadel" for the elite. It had an advanced drainage and sanitation system, including sump chambers in houses and public sewers. There is Cemetery, Water Wells, Bead Factory, Kiln, Lower Town, Acropolis, Ware-House, Dockyard, etc. Lothal was a Harappan Port Town in past. The city was a major hub for bead-making and metallurgy. Lothal was a crucial port city with an artificial dock connected to a river. It was a center for trade, exporting beads, gems, and ornaments to regions as far away as Africa. Warehouses were located near the dock to store goods for export.
The whole area can be visited in 20-30 minutes. Not able to see the existing Museum as was not aware of. A new museum, World’s largest is under making here named as National Maritime Heritage Museum in a large complex. Do read the Information Plates there to learn about the place.
