点评:We came to Southwest Colorado expecting an incredible mountain vacation, and to be fair, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The old mining sites, abandoned structures, mountain trails, and history were easily the best part of the trip. Driving trails like Bridal Veil Falls, Alta Lakes, and especially Imogene Pass gave us some memories we will probably be talking about for the rest of our lives.
Although Imogene Pass also gave my wife a few memories she would probably like professionally removed. 😂
Telluride itself, though? Holy ****.
Everything is EXPENSIVE. Want to park your own vehicle at the hotel? That'll be $50 a night. Want someone else to move it 100 feet for you? $60. Want food? Better hope you're prepared to refinance the truck.
The town is beautiful, but unless you're hiking, skiing, off-roading, or particularly passionate about looking at mountains while spending money, there really isn't a whole lot to do. We quickly discovered that we're apparently not sophisticated enough for Telluride. Sometimes I don't want organic locally sourced Himalayan free-range artisan whatever. Sometimes I just want a damn cheeseburger. 😂
The trails, however, were AWESOME. Alta Lakes and the abandoned mining areas were fascinating, Bridal Veil Falls was beautiful, and Imogene Pass was simultaneously one of the coolest and dumbest decisions I've ever made.
Coming down the Ouray side, I watched a guided tour take one route and thought, “Nah, we'll go this way.”
That was a mistake.
About 30 seconds later the F-150 was pointed at the center of the Earth, the back corner felt like it was lifting off the ground, my wife was crying, and I was suddenly reevaluating every decision I'd made since birth.
Somehow we survived, the truck survived, and I can now proudly say:
I HAVE ASCENDED.
Overall, Southwest Colorado is absolutely worth seeing. The mountains are spectacular, the mining history is fascinating, and the off-road trails are incredible. But after several days of Telluride prices, limited food options, construction delays, and our truck attempting to become a mountain goat, we actually left our vacation early.
Would I visit Colorado again? Absolutely.
Would I spend another week and several thousand dollars staying in Telluride?
Absolutely the **** not. 😂
⭐⭐⭐ for Telluride.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the mountains and trails.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the F-150 surviving my decision-making.
