点评:I took the house tour and the Forgotten Roads Tour. Rick, a former college level history teacher, lead the tour. The home has been restored to its early period and there are some examples of clothing, occupations, and dally activities. Rick shared stories of the staff and families who lived in the house and who their friends were - all were influential in the shaping of our country. After the house tour I was joined by Tory who has been staff or volunteering at Sully for 19 years! She toured me through the kitchens, laundry, smokehouse, and spring house, and talked about many of the ways chef Thornton and other enslaved people prepared food, churned butter, and did laundry and other chores. We visited a log structure which is built on the exact footprint of one of 3 residences for the enslaved people. I found the site to be easily walkable and the tours to be interesting thanks to Rick and Tory who brought history to life.
