House and grounds enjoyable but cafe disappointing

点评：We visited around 2.00pm on a weekday. There was plenty of parking at the time of our visit. This house was built in the Georgian style in the 1960’s after the previous house burnt down. Although relatively new, the interiors including paintings and ornaments, are originals from the period (although not original to the house). It was a pleasant house to look around and there were plenty of guides available.
We also enjoyed looking around the grounds which I imagine would appeal to families as there are lots of paths to explore. The walled garden is worthy of mention and is somewhere to linger. There were some very impressive onions. The glasshouse had an impressive display of tomato plants too. There was also an old church in which we found a memorial to the last owner in the floor in front of the alter. We did not explore the wider estate.
The only disappointment was the cafe. We had a late lunch I suppose, but there wasn’t a lot of choice. We had the egg mayonnaise sandwiches at £4.50. After one bite, I noticed i) how dry the sandwich was and ii) there didn’t appear to be any egg mayonnaise present. We de-constructed the sandwich. The top slice of bread was indeed dry - no spread on it at all. The bottom slice had the thinnest smear of egg mayonnaise that you could imagine. Most of the egg in the sandwich was sliced egg. No wonder the whole thing was so dry! So I think the NT are treading on thin ice by describing these as an egg mayonnaise because it was not. This sandwich was the worst I’ve had the misfortune to buy at a NT cafe and for the price it was a rip-off.
We returned for tea and cake later. This time, we noticed how small the scones and portions of cake have become. Again, you get a very small piece for your hard earned cash. (One of us opted for flapjack and this at least was a decent portion).

我们稍后又回来喝茶吃蛋糕。这次，我们注意到司康饼和蛋糕的份量都变小了。同样，你用辛苦赚来的钱只能买到这么小的一块。（我们其中一个人选择了燕麦饼，至少这份份量还不错）。
